Outsourced security – APRIL 2022

How an aviation company used outsourcing to overcome inadequate security services.

Back in November 2019, we were approached to mobilise an outsourced security contract for a civil aviation company that provides training to both commercial and private pilots. The tender process was won by showcasing our quality service and our innovative approach to security. Our officers protect high-cost equipment, including flight simulators, and control the access and egress of pilots from the UK and overseas. This security contract has been flourishing since its initiation and is still active at the time of writing.

Our client’s challenge

Expeditious Services were recommended to the civil aviation company after they were let down by a previous supplier. They originally required ad hoc services, which we covered successfully, allowing us to prove our capability. The client was initially nervous about changing providers but was reassured by the contract innovation we could offer and the quality of our management team and therefore was happy to proceed. Our excellent service on ad hoc cover soon led to a competitive tender for outsourced security on their site in Burgess Hill. The client felt that they could put their trust in us to fully manage their security and have since renewed the contract for a further 2 years.

Our action plan

Based on the client’s requirements, Expeditious put into place:

  • Outsourced security model deployed across 4 sites initially, covering nights and weekends with both manned guarding and mobile patrols
  • Workforce management with our platform, Eximitas – providing detailed contract data such as proof of presentation (POP) checks on shift starts
  • Shift scheduling and annual leave management
  • Staff welfare and lone worker integrity checks
  • Site audits
  • Benchmarking to ensure value for money to the FM
  • Ensure all buildings are safe and secure at all times

What we achieved

  • Meeting the FM’s requirements for a resilient support model which met their budget
  • A strategic approach to the contract, taking ownership and responsibility for security on the sites
  • The client increased the number of sites to be covered following positive feedback
  • Bringing the quality of security back above expectations following a previous supplier
  • Exceptional resilience throughout the contract, particularly for ad hoc and reactive needs
  • Business continuity
  • Contract extension following the success
